Daniel Ryerson(
Grade 7- Holy
Angels), a member of
the Newark National
Little League All
Star Team, was
recognized yesterday
along with his
teammates formally
by Governor Markell.
Daniel was one of
the outstanding
athletes that earned
the 2011 12 year old
– Little League
Delaware State
Championship title.
Daniel and team had
the opportunity to
play in the Eastern
Regional Little
League Tournament
which was located in
Bristol,
Connecticut. The
team went 4-1,
losing by only one
run, which left them
one game shy from
playing in the
Little League World
Series.
The purpose of
yesterday’s visit
was to give the
Governor (a former
Newark National
baseball player) the
ability to show the
team how proud he
was – and record
such an outstanding
accomplishment in
Delaware History.
Governor Markell
presented the team
with a formal
tribute, a state pin
and the ability
experience what is
it is like to work
in Legislative Hall.
Daniel quotes: “Win
or lose – this was a
once in a lifetime
experience for me!
The private tour of
ESPN was awesome;
but having the
ability to play
baseball live on
ESPN isn’t an
opportunity every 12
year old gets to
experience. I am
thankful I had this
chance. Our team
played great
baseball, had fun
and lived liked
kings for 10 days.
“
P.S. Daniel’s
sister, Madison
Hildreth, along with
his little brother
Ryan were able to
try out the
Governor’s chair
too.
